The shelves at Anima Mundi apothecary in Venice, CA are organized by what you need right now, not by what sounds good on a label. Like, sleep, energy, immunity, relaxation. Each section is its own little corner – oils, powders, tinctures, resins – arranged beautifully on the shelf. It makes you feel good just being in there.

If your morning coffee isn’t quite cutting it anymore, this layered adaptogenic smoothie might be worth trying. ☁️🦋 And the truth is that the layered blue cloud moment never gets old! Some recipes are just pretty. Others are functional. This one by our brilliant friend @silvia_bifaro is both. It starts with a creamy choco-peanut butter smoothie base, a coffee layer, a splash of milk, a frozen banana, and our Chocolate Protein Powder, delivering up to 18g of protein, roughly 25–40% of a woman’s daily protein needs. The adaptogenic herbs used in this drink are prized for supporting mood, focus, and overall well-being. So instead of a quick burst of energy followed by a crash, they work harmoniously with protein, fat, and fiber to help keep you fuller and more energized for longer. In that dreamy blue cloud, sea moss is bringing naturally occurring trace minerals that support many functions throughout the body, and spirulina is completing the antioxidant-rich profile. Butterfly pea flower gives the stunning hue and contains plant compounds that help counteract oxidative stress. Stacked staples in this glass that you won’t find in just any old smoothie: protein, adaptogens, antioxidants, healthy fats, and mineral-rich superfoods. It’s nourishing enough to keep you going, beautiful enough to feel like a treat, and simple enough to become part of your routine. What do you layer in your breakfast smoothies? The protein powder stopped me first. The packaging shows  a mix of protein powder mixed with their butterfly pea –  that has no business existing in a protein drink, but that makes you want it ASAP.

My faves:  Rose powder. Mushroom mocha milk. A sleep blend that smelled like something my great-grandmother might have kept in a ceramic jar above the stove, unnamed, simply known.

Anima Mundi was founded by Adriana Ayales, a Costa Rican herbalist who built the brand on a knowledge system that predates the wellness industry by several centuries. She is a  very popular and well-respected herbalist in the entire industry.

The mushroom mocha milk tastes exactly as good as it sounds. I’ve been adding the rose powder to tea, desert, protein smoothies What I brought home feels less like a purchase than a small, quiet reclamation — the kind of thing the women before us knew, finally given a beautiful container and a place on the shelf.

I already had the Liver Vitality, which I use to make green smoothies with frozen mangos, frozen banana, spinach and more – they are delicious and help me get my daily servings of fruits/veggies. Anima Mundi in Venice Beach is the best apothecary you’ll ever go to. It’s señora approved.
