Why Do They Keep Finding Forever Chemicals in Our Bloodstream?

It’s Our Day Today

Happy Women’s Equality Day! On this day in 1920, women in the U.S. were given voting rights via the 19th Amendment. If you’re in the mood for motivating and pioneering 19th Amendment reading, try these: The Agitators: Three Friends Who Fought for Abolition and Women’s Rights, We Want Equal Rights!: The Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) Influence on the Women’s Rights Movement, and for kids 9+, Women Win the Vote!: 19 for the 19th Amendment.

Anything for Selenas

Our favorite Santa Señora Selena dropped her new single yesterday, Single Now, with lyrics that will make you wonder if she’s sending out coded signals to someone (“I’m picking out this dress, trying on these shoes, cause I’ll be single soon…I know he’ll be a mess.” squee!).

Blood “Floaties” Help Pregnant Women?

Did you know that 30-40% of the risk of preterm birth is due to genetic factors? Doctors think they may have just created a simple blood test to screen for preterm birth and dangerous pregnancy complications like preeclampsia. It involves scouting for floating genetic markers in a woman and her baby’s blood. This would help many women given that pre-eclampsia happens in 5% of pregnant women worldwide and can lead to issues like seizures, comas, organ damage and can even lead to death.

Forever Chemicals In Our Bloodstream?

Researchers have just found that Asian Americans have higher levels of PFAS “forever chemicals” in their bloodstream, much like how Latinas have been found to have higher levels of problem chemicals in our bloodstream. What can we do about it besides educating ourselves around how to shop for personal care products with little to no ingredients linked to risky outcomes? It’s still all so unclear, but we all need to start paying attention.

Are you first generation? Second? We can all agree these definitions are super unclear, but the U.S. census defines #firstgen as those who are foreign born, and #secondgen as those who have at least one foreign-born parent. Grab your favorite vitaminas for Back-to-School at MaryRuth’s Organics. Use our code MROSENORA15 for 15% off. I am in love with their Liquid Morning Multivitamin for the whole family. There’s just something about drinkable vitamins – maybe because it reminds of of jarabe (strawberry tasting throat syrup) from our childhood. It also gives you a kick of energy so take it in the morning.

Trying to start planning your fall garden? It’s almost time! Here’s the $27 4-tier mini greenhouse with a roll-up zipper door I used in the spring (you can see it in our tiktok videos), but if you want something bigger take a look at Vevor’s Walk-In Greenhouse for $62. Watch out for mice, because they can easily climb up and chomp on your lettuce.

Don’t forget you can still get a $5 Target gift card this weekend if you buy 3 skincare products like Vamigas’ Latin American Rosehip, the Yerba Mate and Aloe mist, our rosehip and aloe mist, and more. Buy in store or online.
