Homemade Blueberry Latte: My Favorite Summer Drink Costs Less Than a Coffee Shop Drink

Summer has a funny way of making me crave colorful little luxuries.

A lavender lemonade. A bright blue cloud green matcha . An iced strawberry latte. There’s something about sipping a drink that looks as good as it tastes that makes an ordinary Tuesday feel a little more special.

But here’s the thing: I don’t want to spend $14 every time I want a pretty drink (I live in SoCal!)

That’s very much not the Señora Era.

Instead, I’ve been making my own blueberry syrup at home, and it has completely changed my morning coffee routine. It takes about 10 minutes, uses ingredients I usually already have, and instantly transforms an ordinary iced latte into something that feels café-worthy.

Even better? If you’re short on blueberries, blackberries work just as well.

Homemade Blueberry Syrup

This simple syrup keeps in the refrigerator for several days, so you can make a batch once and enjoy colorful lattes all week long.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup blueberries (or use blackberries if that’s what you have)
  • ½ cup water
  • 2–3 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon honey for a richer sweetness

Directions

Add the berries and water to a small saucepan over medium heat.

Bring everything to a gentle boil, then use the back of a large spoon to mash the berries as they soften.

Once the berries have released their juices, stir in the maple syrup, vanilla extract, and honey if using.

Simmer for another 3–5 minutes until the mixture slightly thickens.

Strain through a fine mesh sieve if you prefer a smooth syrup, or leave it rustic with bits of fruit.

Store in a sealed jar in the refrigerator.

How to Make a Blueberry Latte

Fill a glass with ice.

Add 2–3 tablespoons of your blueberry syrup.

Pour in your favorite milk, then top with freshly brewed espresso or strong coffee.

Give it a stir and watch the beautiful purple swirls mix together.

It’s simple, colorful, and honestly feels like something you’d order at your favorite neighborhood coffee shop.

The Señora Era Way

One thing I’ve noticed about slowing down is that it isn’t always about buying less—it’s about making more. Making your own syrup, using the fruit that’s already sitting in your refrigerator.

Basically, creating little rituals that make home feel just as special as going out.

That’s the heart of Señora Era for me: finding beauty in everyday moments without needing to spend a fortune to enjoy them.

This blueberry latte has become one of those tiny summer rituals I look forward to every morning. Pretty? Absolutely. Expensive? Not even close.

Señora Era is the slow living, wellness, and lifestyle destination.
