Entrepreneur Karla Butvidas is a powerhouse. We met her because we were looking for cute shirts to wear during lockdowns at home and completely fell in love with Karla and Co; the Latina-centric messages, cut, style and color of her shirts. We own several! Anyone can start a brand – but only once in a while will you come across truly authentic creativity, originality and Latinidad that’s not just a cookie cutter, watered-down version of other brands. That’s where true organic authenticity comes in. Karla has that special spark that we would almost call magia.

We recently chatted with her to hear all about her magia. Here’s what she told us.

What is Karla and Co?

Karla and Co. was born with the idea to express the love of our cultura and our roots in a fun and cute way. Our mission is to bring a smile and connect with our community through a fun saying or drawing that celebrate us.

How did Karla and Co get started?

I started Karla and Co. after family members and friends who were obsessed with our MOFONGO shirt. They loved the idea of wearing our culture.  After a week I got so many messages on my personal profile that we decided to open a page and after that it when boom. 

What was the very first step you took to start the brand

First step I took was to find the right product I wanted to sell, something  I personally love and wear. One of the things we are extremely proud of here in Karla and Co. is that we offer a quality product made with love and sazón for all to enjoy. 

What’s your advice to fellow Latinas who want to start a brand?

To my fellow Mujeres, Lucha for your dreams even if others don’t believe you can do it, don’t listen to the voices who want to bring you down.
