SEÑORA 5 / METHODOLOGY

How We Rank

Not just what's trending. What's trending with us.

The methodology behind Señora 5, the weekly shopping index for women over 40.

Women over 40 are shaping consumer culture, influencing trends, discovering brands, and making decisions about what deserves their attention.

Yet most shopping trend reports still aren't built around them.

We thought it was time to change that.

Meet Señora 5, our weekly shopping index tracking the products capturing attention across fashion, beauty, home decor, furniture, kitchen, wellness, and more.

Every Sunday, we analyze thousands of products using available popularity data, click-level shopping engagement, and editorial review to identify the five products leading individual shopping categories.

Because knowing what's trending is interesting.

Knowing what's gaining attention right now? Even better.

01. Thousands of products. Thousands of signals. One weekly report.

The internet has no shortage of shopping recommendations.

Everybody has a favorite serum. A must-have handbag. A life-changing kitchen gadget.

But we wanted to understand something bigger.

Which products are actually capturing attention across the shopping landscape?

To help answer that question, Señora 5 examines product popularity and engagement information available through creator commerce platforms and shopping discovery networks, including ShopMy.

Depending on the available data, we look at signals such as:

  • Product popularity within shopping categories.
  • Click-level shopping engagement.
  • Trending product placements.
  • Creator-driven product discovery.
  • Changes in product popularity over time.
  • Product pricing and retail availability.

These signals help us identify products attracting interest rather than relying exclusively on individual recommendations.

An important distinction: Señora 5 does not measure actual retail sales, confirmed purchases, or revenue generated by individual products.

And because the underlying shopping data does not necessarily identify the ages of individual shoppers, our rankings should not be interpreted as verified purchasing behavior exclusively among women over 40.

We're interpreting broader shopping popularity through an editorial perspective created specifically for this audience.

02. The Four Factors Behind Every Ranking

1. Popularity Momentum

What's getting attention? And what's picking up speed?

Shopping trends move quickly.

A product can gain visibility through creator recommendations, social discovery, seasonal demand, or growing interest across shopping platforms.

We examine available popularity signals to identify products attracting attention within their respective categories.

When historical information is available, we also look at changes between reporting periods.

A product gaining momentum may be worth watching even before it becomes a familiar name.

2. Clicks & Shopping Engagement

Because attention tells a story.

Click-level engagement is one of the signals we use to understand product interest.

When people click to explore a product, it provides a measurable indication of shopping curiosity or intent.

But there's an important difference between clicking on a product and buying it.

A click is not a sale.

We use click-level engagement to help identify interest, not to claim that a particular number of products has been purchased.

When comparing products, we consider the available information and the limitations of the underlying data.

3. Price & Availability

Because falling in love with something that's sold out is nobody's favorite hobby.

We review available product pricing, retail listings, and availability to make our rankings useful to readers.

Señora 5 covers everything from everyday essentials to investment pieces and luxury finds.

Price alone does not determine a product's popularity ranking.

Likewise, a high price does not automatically make a product better, more desirable, or more deserving of a place on our lists.

Retail prices, inventory, and promotions may change after publication.

4. Editorial Review

The data leads. Our editors make sure the list makes sense.

Before publication, we review the available product information and category placement.

This may include checking product descriptions, reviewing duplicate listings, assessing category relevance, and evaluating available retailer information.

Our editorial process is intended to make the rankings clearer and more useful.

It does not mean that every ranked product has been personally purchased, physically tested, or evaluated for long-term performance.

Where hands-on testing has taken place, we distinguish it from data-informed product discovery.

03. Why Five?

Because nobody needs another list of 147 things.

Shopping should be fun. Discovering something new should feel exciting.

But searching through hundreds of products just to find a good pair of boots or the right serum?

That's a full-time job.

Señora 5 takes a different approach.

We organize shopping trends into specific categories and highlight five products in each ranking.

Five rugs. Five sweaters. Five serums. Five handbags.

The format makes it easier to explore what's capturing attention without getting buried in endless recommendations.

Our category structure also helps make the rankings more meaningful.

A rug is compared within its rug category—not against a lipstick, a sofa, or a winter coat.

As our platform expands, we'll continue adding relevant categories and subcategories.

04. Why Women Over 40?

Because we're not exactly a niche market.

Women in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and beyond influence shopping decisions across nearly every consumer category.

They discover new brands, embrace new trends, invest in their homes, experiment with personal style, and make purchases for themselves and others.

And they do it with different interests, aesthetics, priorities, and budgets.

We don't believe age should dictate someone's style or shopping habits.

But we do believe women over 40 deserve to be represented in the conversation about what's trending.

Señora 5 puts this audience at the center of the editorial experience.

Our age-focused perspective informs the categories we cover, the way we organize shopping discoveries, and the context we provide.

It does not mean that every click or product popularity signal comes from a verified shopper over 40.

That distinction is important to us.

05. A Fresh Five. Every Sunday.

Trends change. So do the rankings.

Every Sunday, Señora 5 publishes an updated snapshot of product popularity across its shopping categories.

Our weekly process follows four stages:

01 — Collect

Gather the latest available product popularity information and click-level engagement signals.

02 — Compare

Examine product interest within each category using the comparable data available for that reporting period.

03 — Review

Evaluate product relevance, duplicate listings, available prices, and editorial considerations.

04 — Publish

Release updated Top 5 rankings and preserve the weekly snapshot for future reference.

Each edition reflects the information available during that publication cycle.

A product's position is not a permanent designation, and rankings may change as shopping interest evolves.

06. What's Rising, What's Falling, and What's Holding Strong

The interesting part? Watching what happens next.

As our weekly archive grows, Señora 5 can track changes in product ranking positions.

You'll begin seeing indicators such as:

New This Week

A product appearing in a tracked ranking for the first time during the comparison period.

Climbing

A product moving higher compared with the previous weekly ranking.

Falling

A product moving lower compared with the previous weekly ranking.

Holding Steady

A product maintaining its previous ranking position.

Still #1

A product retaining the top position across consecutive weekly reports.

These movement indicators rely on comparable saved ranking snapshots.

We don't invent historical rankings or movement percentages when the necessary historical data isn't available.

And movement refers to changes in our rankings—not changes in verified sales.

07. Does #1 Mean It's the Best Product?

Not necessarily. And that's kind of the point.

A product can be popular for all sorts of reasons.

Beautiful design. A compelling price. A recommendation from a trusted creator. A viral moment. A seasonal trend.

Sometimes several of those things happen at once.

But popularity and quality are not interchangeable.

Señora 5 tracks shopping attention, not laboratory-tested superiority.

A product's ranking does not establish that it's the highest-quality, most durable, or most effective option available.

Think of Señora 5 as a way to discover what's attracting interest—and decide for yourself what's worth exploring.

08. Can Brands Pay to Be #1?

Short answer? Absolutely not.

Señora Era works with brands through sponsored editorial content, advertising, affiliate partnerships, and other media collaborations.

But our independent Señora 5 rankings are not for sale.

Brands cannot purchase a higher ranking.

A larger affiliate commission does not earn a product a better position.

And sponsored partnerships do not guarantee inclusion in the index.

Money can buy advertising. It cannot buy the #1 spot.

When content is sponsored, we identify it appropriately and keep it separate from our independent ranking process.

Señora Era may earn commissions when readers purchase products through affiliate links. Those commissions support our publishing business but do not determine the ordering of the rankings.

09. A Note About Our Data

Smart shopping starts with understanding the numbers.

We believe transparency makes shopping information more useful.

Here's what readers should understand about Señora 5:

Our rankings are informed by available third-party product popularity and click-level engagement data.

They are not a verified record of consumer purchases, retail revenue, or product sales volumes.

The data does not necessarily identify the ages, demographics, or purchasing behavior of individual shoppers.

Different product categories may have different levels of available engagement information.

Popularity indicators may also be affected by platform visibility, creator activity, seasonal interest, and other factors.

We use editorial review to provide context, but we don't claim that our rankings represent the preferences of every woman over 40.

We may refine our methodology as our sources, tracking capabilities, and category coverage develop.

The goal isn't to pretend we know everything. It's to make what we can measure genuinely useful.

10. What Happens After Sunday?

The internet moves fast. We keep the receipts.

Each weekly Señora 5 edition is intended to become part of our historical archive.

Over time, this makes it possible to explore which products remained popular, which appeared briefly, and which gained momentum across multiple weeks.

Readers can return to previous editions and discover how rankings have evolved.

Because sometimes the most interesting story isn't what's trending today.

It's what's still trending a month later.
