The cortisol cocktail (also called the adrenal cocktail) is the mocktail all over TikTok: orange juice, coconut water and a pinch of sea salt, served over ice in the afternoon. Fans say it helps with the 3pm slump. Here is the recipe, what it can and cannot do, and the prettiest glassware to serve it in.
Cortisol Cocktail Recipe
- 4 oz fresh orange juice
- 4 oz coconut water
- 1/4 tsp sea salt or pink Himalayan salt
- Optional: 1/4 tsp cream of tartar, a splash of sparkling water and a squeeze of lime
- Ice
- Juice the oranges (a citrus juicer makes this fast).
- Stir the orange juice, coconut water and salt together until the salt dissolves.
- Pour over ice, top with sparkling water if you like and garnish with an orange slice.
Does the Cortisol Cocktail Actually Work?
There is no research showing this drink lowers cortisol. What it does give you is hydration plus potassium (from the coconut water and orange juice), sodium and vitamin C, which can help you feel more energized if you are low on fluids or skipped a snack. Think of it as a refreshing, better-for-you mocktail. If you have high blood pressure, kidney issues or watch your sodium, check with your doctor before adding salt drinks to your routine.
