Plus back-to-school shopping just got a little easier in certain states. Florida’s Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday lets shoppers save by eliminating state sales tax on qualifying items such as clothing, shoes, backpacks, school supplies, and many learning materials, up to certain price limits. In recent years, Florida has expanded the holiday, and beginning in 2026 many qualifying back-to-school items are tax-free year-round.

Florida isn’t the only state offering a break for families. States including Arkansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Mexico, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia also hold annual sales tax holidays, though the dates, eligible items, and price limits vary.
