Why Mexican Actress Barbara de Regil Is Our New Fitness Obsession

We have been obsessed with the instagram adventures of Mexican actress Barbara de Regil, ever since she burst into Instagram with her “retos.” These consist of 45 minute, live and super high intensity, and also super fun workouts on her insta and YouTube. They are so power-packed that one of them went viral throughout Latin America. So we were curious and decided to dig a little deeper. We sure are glad we did because you can now find us doing retos every morning or afternoon by the pool.

Who Is Bárbara de Regil?

By trade, Barbara is an actress, who shot to fame in the soap opera Bajo el Alma, and her most famous character is Rosario in Rosario Tijeras from Sony Pictures/TV Azteca. But we suspect she will make the big leap into Hollywood, with her first role opposite Josh Duhamel and Abbie Cornish in Blackout, set in Mexico City coming up next year.

But de Regil has a Superhero-type alter ego that’s all about health and fitness. She’s developed her signature Retos, which have turned her into a household name in Mexico. She also previews them on her instagram page and YouTube. She essentially blew up because of the lockdowns, when most folks were at home unable to hit the gym.

Her workouts are intense, uplifting, and just make you feel good. We love her excellent taste in music and her focus on poder – strength – and not necessarily losing weight, but toning up. Her muscular abs and thighs would put any famous Peloton trainers to shame.
