Halloween just got a little cuter, and this time, Starbucks is giving us something beyond pumpkin spice. The coffee chain has released its new Black Cat Frappuccino, a dark chocolate, cake-inspired frozen drink topped with whipped cream and the most adorable little chocolate cat ears. If you have a child who loves cats, Halloween, or anything that resembles a milkshake, you already know where this is going. And parents wondering whether there’s caffeine in it can breathe a little easier: the standard U.S. version doesn’t contain coffee.

What Is the Starbucks Black Cat Frappuccino?

Launched October 22, 2026, the limited-edition Black Cat Frappuccino combines Starbucks’ signature Crème Frappuccino base with a rich chocolate cake flavor and brownie-like notes.

It’s blended into a dark, dessert-like drink, finished with whipped cream and two chocolate cat ears.

Starbucks is also leaning into the nostalgia with Salem, the famously sarcastic black cat from Sabrina the Teenage Witch, helping introduce the Halloween creation.

The drink is available at select U.S. Starbucks locations through October 31, 2026.

Does the Black Cat Frappuccino Have Caffeine?

Here’s the good news for parents: the Starbucks Black Cat Frappuccino is already made without coffee or espresso.

Unlike traditional coffee-based Frappuccinos, this Halloween creation uses a Crème Frappuccino base.

According to Starbucks’ official nutritional information, a grande contains 0 milligrams of caffeine.

However, because the recipe contains cocoa powder and chocolate, it may have very small amounts of naturally occurring caffeine, even though Starbucks lists the finished drink at 0 mg.

That means parents don’t need to request a special coffee-free version when ordering the standard U.S. drink.

Can Kids Drink the Starbucks Black Cat Frappuccino?

Yes, for most children, the Black Cat Frappuccino can be enjoyed as an occasional sweet treat.

While caffeine isn’t a major concern with the standard recipe, there’s something else parents should know: a grande contains 60 grams of sugar and 430 calories.

That’s a substantial amount of sugar for a child, so we would treat this more like a Halloween milkshake than an everyday beverage.

The drink is also only offered in a grande, which makes sharing an appealing option for younger kids.

For families who want to customize it, Starbucks currently allows changes to the milk, whipped cream, and chocolate cat-ear toppings. Those adjustments won’t necessarily make it a low-sugar beverage, but they can accommodate certain preferences.

One additional note: the ingredients contain milk, soy, and barley malt extract containing gluten, so families managing food allergies or sensitivities should review the ingredient list before ordering.

Starbucks Has a New Halloween Cookie, Too

The Black Cat Frappuccino isn’t arriving alone.

Starbucks has also introduced the Venti Black Night Cookie, a generously sized dark chocolate cookie filled with caramel fudge pieces and chunks of caramelized white chocolate.

It’s designed as a shareable Halloween dessert, making the cookie and Frappuccino a particularly fun pairing for a festive afternoon outing.

A Little Halloween Magic Before October Ends

Between school activities, costume planning, and the excitement of trick-or-treating, sometimes the smallest seasonal traditions become the ones kids remember.

A spontaneous Starbucks stop for a chocolate drink with little cat ears? That feels like exactly the kind of simple Halloween memory worth making.

Just remember that the Black Cat Frappuccino is only here through October 31 at participating locations, so this is one seasonal treat you won’t want to leave until November.
