Women’s golf is having a moment, and as the mom of an 8-year-old tournament golfer here in Northern California, I feel especially invested in where the sport goes from here. Golf has been male-dominated for generations, and watching my daughter grow up playing tournaments has made me realize how important it is to support women and girls in this sport—and the brands that actually make space for them. The recent Good Good controversy made me feel that even more strongly. Seeing an ad make a joke out of a male golfer shoving a woman to the ground was such a reminder that, for all the progress women’s golf has made, we still have a long way to go.
Which brings me to Malbon Golf. I was actually first introduced to Malbon on the San Francisco kids golf tour by another mommy caddy who was wearing it, and I remember thinking it looked SO cool. It has this almost ’90s retro golf vibe that somehow still feels completely current. And if you haven’t heard of Malbon because you aren’t spending your weekends at junior golf tournaments like we are, that’s okay—you will literally want to wear this stuff anyway.
I also love that women’s golf fashion is finally starting to feel like actual fashion. Women and girls deserve more than boring versions of the same male-dominated sports attire we’ve seen forever. Give us the cute Malbon golf shirts, sweaters, skirts and Malbon golf bag. And even though we’re here for the women’s collection, the Malbon golf hat, the Malbon New Era hat, is very cool, too.
Because ultimately, I want my daughter to grow up in a version of golf where girls aren’t an afterthought. I want her to see women everywhere in the sport, feel like she belongs there, and—yes—get to wear clothes that make her feel really freaking cool while she’s doing it.
