Apparently, the unlucky folks that villagers mistook as “vampires” in the 1600s may have been some of the first victims of plagues, like the Bubonic Plague. Once these supposed “revenants” were in their graves, villagers often did everything they could to keep them down there.
Speaking of Vampires, the new Pinochet-vampire thriller El Conde is out now on Netflix. It’s a horror film based on my country Chile’s most difficult political time period.
Vampire vampires all around you: the year’s best series, AMC’s Interview with the Vampire is now on Max. And it’s really really good.

If your career defines your identity, you might realize that your joy is connected to your achievements. What happens when when you retire? Some folks are going back to school and creating an entirely new self, with “post career” programs that are giving them a renewed take on life.

The upcoming Harvest Moon, on September 29, is supposed to mean that an era in your life is ending. Have you been feeling the charge? Luckily we have La Brujita del Jardin to guide us through this season, with her book, Cosmica. It’s a Spanglish collection of mantras, magic rituals and poetry, around self-love, healing, and spiritual manifestation. It will motivate you if you’ve been feeling stuck, and maybe even help you kickstart your journey into a new and very special era in your life. Get it here.
Brujita del Jardin is Natalie Garcia, songwriter, spoken-word artist and actress who specializes in creating manifesting rituals and guiding women with busy lifestyles towards their cosmic magia. Natalie, who credits her curandera mother for passing down her talent in herbal medicine, created this manifestation after realizing that there was very little representation of Latina and WOC witches in mainstream media — or they were portrayed as villains instead of healers.
