Why do 11% of Hispanics not consider themselves Hispanic?
Skip the Wine, Play Pickleball
A habit is simply a reflex you can create yourself, and you only need 6 weeks to form a new one. To break a bad habit, first figure out your ‘triggers” and avoid them. Then, start subbing the unwanted behavior for the behavior you want in its place. Do this repeatedly for as many days in a row as you can. Then reward yourself.
For example, let’s say you want to stop drinking wine after work. Your trigger is sitting down in front of the TV to relax. Next time you sit down, grab a cup of chamomile tea or cup of Calm. Then reward yourself with a good meal or your favorite movie. Rinse and repeat for 6 weeks. For me, all I need is to remember that bad post-vino Señora heartburn.
Pickleball is everywhere and everyone seems to be trying it because it’s a fun and easy fitness habit to pick up. But did you know you still have to stretch beforehand? Here’s a 5-minute warm up routine for your new Pickleball habit.
Hispanic Heritage Month is Almost Here
Did you see USPS’s unveiled the cutest piñata postage stamps? They’re by designer Victor Meléndez, who grew up in Mexico City and has beautiful memories of making piñatas with his cousins to celebrate Las Posadas. My childhood piñata memories involve Spiderman and Wonder Woman
The U.S. Hispanic population reached 64 million people in 2022, and make up 19% of the population. Interestingly, Pew reports that 11% of these folks do not consider themselves Hispanic. Who are they? All immigrants identify as Hispanic but by the fourth generation, only half of people with Hispanic heritage in the US think of themselves as Hispanic.
This viral tiktok video is a reminder of how heart-wrenching it is to think about the hardships some of our parents, grandparents or great grandparents went through before they came to the U.S.

I’m a big fan of King Arthur Flours – and they’ve got your back for fall baking. Did you know they also have gluten free scone, banana bread, pumpkin bread, and pie crust mix? So ready for Thanksgiving (eek!).
There was a link error on yesterday’s newsletter: Did you know you can make your own flour? All you need is a machine and some wheatberries. Nutrimill probably offers the best harvest grain mill out there and I have one too. They’re great if you are doing sourdoughs all the time because you won’t need weekly flour purchases.
