LED Masks: What Are They And Which One Is The Best?

red light LED mask

Unless you’ve been spending your time under a rock, you’ve seen those glowing masks everyone seems to be wearing. LED masks are experiencing a huge glow up this year, with women raving about its benefits. I have to admit, I was a non-believer (because I’m a grumpy contrarian), until I tried my mom’s mask for a few weeks and could see a noticeable difference on my skin tone.

So what’s an LED mask?

LED masks are wearable skincare devices that use Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology to target common skin concerns like acne, fine lines, dullness, and inflammation. They emit specific wavelengths of light, typically red, blue, and near-infrared, to penetrate different layers of the skin. Red light helps boost collagen and reduce wrinkles, blue light kills acne-causing bacteria, and near-infrared light calms inflammation and supports healing. Most high-quality LED masks are non-invasive, painless, and considered safe for regular use. In fact, many (including top brands like Omnilux) are FDA-cleared, meaning they’ve met standards for safety and effectiveness. That said, it’s always smart to follow usage instructions and consult with a dermatologist if you have any skin conditions, just to be safe.

Here are a few we tried out:

Omnilux Contour Face
The one I bought (and love)
This is the LED mask that makes you feel like you’re doing serious skin care without looking like Iron Man. FDA-cleared and dermatologist-loved, it’s made of soft, flexible silicone that actually molds to your face. It’s red and near-infrared light only—no blue light here—but that means it’s all about collagen-boosting and inflammation-calming.

  • Pluses: Super comfy, luxe feel, clinically backed, you do start to glow after a few uses
  • Minuses: Pricey ($395), only red light so not ideal for acne, and you kinda look like a glow worm while wearing it. Luckily they offer AfterPay.

Dr. Dennis Gross DRx SpectraLite FaceWare Pro
The one that makes you look like a cyborg from outer space.
This mask is something Daft Punk might wear at Coachella, and honestly? We’re into it. With red AND blue light modes (or both at once!), it targets both breakouts and wrinkles—perfect for when you’re fighting both like a multitasking queen

  • Pluses: 3-minute sessions, combats acne and aging, very sleek-looking
  • Minuses: Rigid fit (doesn’t mold well to all face shapes), battery can be fussy, and at $455 it’s not exactly a casual buy

CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Mask
The one your TikTok faves keep tagging
This one went viral thanks to celebs and influencers—yes, that’s the one you saw in the white terry robe selfies. It uses red and near-infrared light, much like the Omnilux, but it has a slightly stiffer design. Still, it’s a solid pick if you want that “I invest in my skin” vibe.

  • Pluses: Effective, often on sale, fits well enough and looks cool in content
  • Minuses: A bit bulky, straps can be awkward, and can feel heavy during longer sessions

Solawave Bye Acne LED Light Therapy Mask
The budget-friendly little sis
This cutie is way less intimidating and designed specifically for acne with its blue and red light combo. Think: lightweight, wallet-friendly, and perfect for hormonal chin breakouts after a bad taco Tuesday.

  • Pluses: Great for beginners, under $150, lightweight and breathable
  • Minuses: Not ideal for wrinkle-focused girlies, build feels flimsier, and doesn’t have the luxe factor of others
